Kisangani, April 4th, 2025 (CPA) – Four people were arrested on Thursday in possession of over a thousand (1000) certificates fraudulently issued to people registered as victims of the Mbole-Lengola intercommunity conflict, in Kisangani, Tshopo province, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a municipal source informs. “These four swindlers were arrested in possession of more than 1,000 certificates fraudulently issued to people supposedly registered as victims,” said Jupson Popolipo, mayor of the commune of Kisangani.
The municipal authority recalled that the identification of victims of the Mbole-Lengola conflict had already been carried out a long time ago. This new operation is nothing but a scam designed to extract money from the population. “It’s a scam, pure and simple. Anyone who pays money for this so-called identification will lose their money. There are three official IDP sites in the city, including Konga Konga, which hosts over 70% of the displaced population. Registration was carried out a long time ago and is now closed,” says Popolipo. He urged the population to be cautious in the face of this well-organized mafia network seeking to deceive citizens under the pretext of new identification. “We inform the population that a network of fraudsters is circulating in the city, inciting residents to pay a sum of money to be registered and recognized as displaced,” he warned. These swindlers were demanding amounts ranging from 50,000 FC to 100,000 FC to register presumed victims on their fraudulent lists, he added.
