Kinshasa, May 6th, 2025 (CPA ) – The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been placed in hat 3 for the men’s Afrobasket 2025 draw, scheduled for Friday in Luanda, Angola, according to the website of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA)-Africa consulted on Tuesday by CPA.This position follows a good run by the Leopards during the qualifiers, particularly their victory over Mali (65-59) on the first day of the third qualifying phase.Scheduled to take place from August 13th to 24th 2025, the final phase of this 31st edition of the African Basketball Championship will bring together 16 teams, including hosts Angola, defending champions Tunisia, DRC, Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt and Ivory Coast, among others.
According to the same source, the teams are divided into four groups as follows:
Group 1: Senegal, Angola, Tunisia and Ivory Coast;
Group 2: Nigeria, Cape Verde, Egypt and South Sudan;
Group 3: DRC, Cameroon, Mali and Guinea;
Group 4: Rwanda, Uganda, Libya and Madagascar.
DRC’s Leopards are now awaiting the draw to find out their opponents in the group phase. They will be taking part in this competition with the aim of reaching a new level on the continental stage. For the record, at the previous edition, held in 2021 in Kigali (Rwanda), DRC had progressed through the group phase in a group comprising Cape Verde, Rwanda and Angola.
