Kinshasa, May 12th, 2025 (CPA) – Three hundred tonnes of humanitarian aid for victims of the recent torrential rains in Kinshasa and the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were announced by a European Commission official at a meeting on Monday with the Minister in charge of Social Affairs. ‘We have discussed with the Minister in charge of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity, Nathalie Aziza Munana, the issue of humanitarian aid for war displaced persons, and we have announced a volume of three hundred humanitarian tonnes for these disaster victims and those in the occupied territories in the east of DRC’, has declared Hans DAS, Deputy General Director and Chief Operations Officer of the European Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid Operations and Civil Protection. Hans DAS has reaffirmed the commitment of his organisation to Minister Munana not to abandon funding for disaster victims, but rather to maintain the level of funding. On the same day, the Minister in charge of Social Affairs met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in DRC to discuss World Africa Day, which is celebrated every year on May 25th, marking the annual commemoration of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on May 25th, 1963. This African solidarity is proof of the extent to which Africans can take care of themselves. This initiative to celebrate Africa Day with the victims of the floods of April 4th and 5th is a strong message to the other ambassadors accredited to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),’ has said Nathalie Aziza Munana, Minister in charge of Social Affairs. For Rachid Agassim, ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco and dean of African diplomats in DRC, ‘this year, the group of African ambassadors in DRC wishes to celebrate Africa Day with the victims of the floods of April 4th and 5th. The aim is to strengthen African solidarity’. The Minister in charge of Social Affairs has also discussed the issue of children affected by the floods in DRC with the new representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), who has come to pay his respects. ‘Among my three actions, the issue of disaster-stricken children is one of them. Hence the collaboration with the Ministry in charge of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity’, has said John Agbor, the new UNICEF representative in DRC, who has only been in Kinshasa for 6 days. These three personalities praised the determination and commitment of Minister Munana for her combined efforts on behalf of all vulnerable groups in DRC.
