« In Kanyaruchinya, in 3 years, MSF teams have supported more than 220,000 medical consultations and more than 7,500 deliveries. We have also provided care to nearly 6,000 victims of sexual violence in this health centre.
Our teams will no longer be in the health centre at the end of the month, but we are obviously closely monitoring developments in the area » has said Marcela Allheimen, MSF emergency manager in Goma. For the head of MSF emergencies in Goma, after almost three years of support to the Kanyaruchinya health centre in the north of Goma, her teams will be able to withdraw at the end of April to support other health structures with more urgent needs. ‘As you know, the IDP camps around Goma have largely emptied out, and we are seeing a sharp drop in the number of consultations at Kanyaruchinya, while needs are increasing elsewhere’, she has pointed out. She has announced that her teams are adopting an emergency response to this situation, with a view to providing assistance to other medical facilities.
