Resolution 1325: drawing up a national action plan, the focus of a workshop in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, April 30th, 2025 (CPA) – The drafting of a national action plan for Resolution 1325, on the third generation ‘Women, peace and security’ agenda, was at the centre of discussions at the end of a training workshop for focal points in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Tuesday.

‘It is now 25 years since the United Nations Council adopted Resolution 1325 on the participation of women in peace and security issues. They asked each member country to draw up a national action plan, which is also why we are here for these two days,’ said Mimie Mopunga, Deputy Executive Director of the Permanent Consultation Framework for Congolese Women (Cafco).

‘The aim is to improve the knowledge of the focal points, clarify the role and responsibility of each actor and budgeting by the sectoral ministries and structures concerned to improve the implementation of the women, peace and security agenda’, she added. According to Ms Mopunga, the DRC had responded favorably to this request. It has drawn up its national action plan, which is gradually being implemented despite the meager resources at its disposal. A number of issues were addressed during the two-day workshop, held from April 28th to 29th, 2025. The representatives of civil society and the ministries involved in the field upgraded their skills and drew up recommendations that will serve as a guide during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of this resolution in the DRC.
