Kinshasa, April 29th, 2025 (CPA) – The Japanese Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Iwaya Takeshi, will make on Tuesday to Dakar an official visit for twenty-four hours to strengthen his country’s cooperation with Senegal, international media have reported.
‘He will use his visit to discuss with the Senegalese authorities ways of strengthening the Senegalese-Japanese partnership’, the sources have reported. Iwaya Takeshi is also expected to discuss security in West Africa and the Sahel with the Senegalese authorities. Japan will be organising, in the next August, the ninth edition of TICAD, the Tokyo International Conference on African Development. The ‘Senegal 2050’ plan, implemented by Senegal’s current leaders, will be discussed by them and the Japanese minister. Japan and Senegal have been cooperating in several fields since the independence of this African country in 1960. The Senegal-Japan vocational and technical training centre has become emblematic of Senegalese-Japanese relations. It has trained thousands of Senegalese engineers and welcomed many trainees from French-speaking African countries. The cooperation between Japan and Senegal also covers health, agriculture, education and mine clearance in Casamance, the southern part of Senegalese territory
