Kinshasa, June 23rd, 2025 (CPA). – The Rwandan army and M23-AFC terrorists have summarily executed 17 Congolese civilians accused of supporting the loyalist army and its allies in an occupied territory in Sud-Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) have announced on Monday in a statement. “The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo bring to the attention of national and international opinion the summary execution of seventeen (17) civilians by the RDF/AFC/M23 coalition on Sunday, June 22nd 2025, at around 6 p.m. in the village of Munzinzi, in the Ngweshe chiefdom, in the Walungu territory, Sud-Kivu province, » it is read in the statement signed by Major General Sylvain Ekenge, spokesperson for the FARDC.
‘Several houses have been also set on fire and the terrorised civilian population has been forced to take refuge in the nearest military positions,’ he has explained. According to him, these terrorists, after failing and suffering heavy losses in their attempts to attack the loyalist forces’ positions, these terrorists have accused the civilian population of ‘collaborating with the FARDC and the Wazalendo.’ To this end, the FARDC have condemned this latest pogrom while calling on the population to remain vigilant. The Rwandan army and the M23-AFC occupy some areas in the provinces of Nord-Kivu and Sud-Kivu where they are not accepted by the population.

To take control of Goma, the martyred capital of neighbouring Nord-Kivu, the attackers have massacred 8,500 people, according to the official toll. The United Nations have counted 3,000 dead. In the occupied areas, every day, images of summary executions and torture of all kinds are shared on social media. The UN is currently documenting all these crimes.
