Uvira, April 6th, 2025 (CPA) – The women teachers have been presented as the pillars of the society, at a ceremony marking the close of Women’s Month on Saturday in Uvira, in Sud-Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). « The woman teacher does not always have the task of teaching. She is the pillar of the society and must know how to take charge and become autonomous in all areas », has declared Ponga Nyongolo, coordinator of the League of Women Teachers for Integral Development (LIFEDI). She has explained that through this activity, the woman teacher has come to understand and accept that she can do other things, such as entrepreneurship, and can engage in certain income-generating activities. « We have just concluded the activities of the month dedicated to the struggles of the woman. Because of the problems we had in Uvira following the war, we couldn’t celebrate March 8th day as it should have been. Better late than never, so we have wanted to bring the month to a close today, » she has indicated. According to Ms Nyongolo, this celebration has allowed to the woman teacher to prove to the world her existence and her capacity. Celebrated under the theme: ‘For all the women and girls, rights, equality and empowerment’ and ‘The women teachers in Uvira now at the centre of all ambitions’, this activity has seen the participation of Mr Faustin Mayani, Provincial Minister in charge of Justice, Human Rights, Gender, Family and Child in Sud-Kivu.
