Sud-Ubangi: Population urged to remain calm

Gemena, June 23^rd, 2025 (CPA).- The population of Sud-Ubangi province in the north-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo was urged to remain calm by a national elected representative during an interview on Monday in Gemena. « I urge the people of sud-Ubangi to remain calm, because I believe that the provinces of Sud-Ubangi, Nord-Ubangi, Mongala, and Equateur in the Greater Equateur region have never been provinces of insecurity. We have always enjoyed security and led peaceful lives in our provinces, and we believe that what is happening elsewhere will never happen again here in Greater Equateur, » has said Jeff Andaka, elected representative of the Gemena territory.  « We accompanied the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Defence, who of course wanted to visit the province of Grand Equateur to inquire about the security situation there. That is why he was accompanied by elected representatives from this large province to help him understand some of the situations that naturally arise in this large province. He is the Minister in charge of Defence, and our province borders several countries, including the Central African Republic, Cameroon and the Republic of the Congo, and when we learn that there are suspicions, the Minister, who is primarily responsible for security and who manages the police and the army, is called upon to come and inquire about the situation and, if necessary, take the necessary measures, » he has added.  Jeff Andaka believes that the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security is a minister who knows how to deal with problems upstream to find solutions and not wait until it is too late to address the issue. That is how he has operated, and his presence has provided solutions to certain problems. The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of defence was visiting Gemena last week as part of his itinerary, accompanied by national elected officials from Grand Équateur, where he held a security meeting with provincial authorities.
