Suspension of “all vehicle impound and technical inspection activities” in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, May 5th, 2025 (CPA) – “All activities related to vehicle impoundment and technical inspection” have been suspended until further notice throughout the city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to a press release from the urban authority in charge of this sector consulted on Saturday. “It is hereby brought to the attention of the entire population of Kinshasa, individuals and legal entities alike, that all other activities related to vehicle impoundment and technical inspection are suspended throughout the city of Kinshasa until further notice”, it is read in the communique signed by Joseph Kasinzi, general director of the Regie for vehicles impoundment and technical inspection in Kinshasa (Régie de fourrière et de contrôle technique des véhicules de Kinshasa – RFCK). “As such, all the partners operating in this sector are invited to contact the RFCK, located on the 3rd level of the Provincial Government building, at the crossroads of Colonel Ebeya and Provinces avenues, in the municipality of Gombe”, the source has added. According to the document, the suspension of vehicle inspection and impoundment activities has been decided in accordance with the decree of March 20th, 2025 on the creation, organization and operation of the Regie for vehicles impoundment and inspection in Kinshasa.  “No operator may operate in this field without prior approval or authorization from the Regie for vehicles impoundment and inspection in Kinshasa (RFCK)”, has continued the source. During his appearance on a radio program on Monday April 28th, Bob Amisso, Provincial Minister in charge of Transport and Urban Mobility, had stated that more than three (3) million vehicles circulate in the city of Kinshasa, and that most of them have technical inspection documents that do not reflect the actual technical condition of the vehicle.
