Tanganyika: Surrender of three militia groups active in Kalemie territory

Kalemie, April 12th, 2025 (CPA) -Three (3) groups of Mayi-Mayi militiamen active in the territory of Kalemie in Tanganyika, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, have surrendered to the province’s civil and military authorities, the CPA learned on Friday from an official source. ‘I salute your courage and call on you to work for peace. This act is beneficial; we must pool our forces to fight the enemy of the nation and stop killing each other,’ said Johnson Kasongo Salumu, Tanganyika’s provincial Minister in charge of the Homeland. The provincial security authority made this statement during his special moral chat with the militiamen, who laid down a number of firearms and bladed weapons.  ‘These militiamen, who have committed a number of atrocities in the localities of Mulange, Koki, Mwaka and Kambilo in the Kalemie territory, have decided to work for peace and the development of the country’, said the provincial Minister of the Interior.

For his part, Colonel Alex Munyalizi Bamaraki, commander of the 22nd brigade of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), announced that the militiamen who had surrendered would join the armed defense reserve in order to fight for the higher interests of the Republic. The militiamen also expressed their commitment to work for the supreme interests of the nation. ‘We are surrendering all the weapons we had and we are ready to fight for the cause of our country’, these militiamen declared in chorus during their presentation. To this end, food and financial assistance, donated by the Tanganyika provincial government, were offered to each of them by way of encouragement for their surrender.
