Kinshasa, April 9th, 2025 (CPA) – The mayor of the commune of Gombe, in the north of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was deposed on Wednesday by the local councillors of this municipality during a plenary session focusing on the motion of no-confidence against the municipal authority. ‘The council voted unanimously, with eight councillors out of nine voting in favour of his removal. Burgomaster Léopold Manzambi is accused of five major grievances, including over-management, caporalisation of the administration, total non-compliance with legal texts, and opaque and chaotic management of the commune’, declared Florent Munyangi, President of the Gombe Communal Council.
‘Allow me to point out that you will understand that my outfit is not in order, because a major incident occurred today at commune level. We had a plenary session today. The Communal Council, as a deliberative body, is supposed to fully exercise its prerogatives in accordance with legal provisions, in particular the control of the executive’, he added. ‘We came to attend the historic plenary session of the Gombe Communal Council, on the motion of no-confidence against burgomaster Léopold Manzambi, accused of mismanagement. Unfortunately, we found that the municipal authority had ordered its deputies to close the office of the multi-purpose hall where the Gombe Communal Council sits’, said Willy Nzembela, the elected representative of the commune of Bipemba in Mbuji Mayi, who had come to support the action taken by this local deliberative body.
