The casting of a film about the rape of women announced on Sunday in Lubumbashi

Kinshasa, April 11th, 2025 (CPA)- The casting (selection) of the new Congolese film entitled ‘Victime’, dealing with the theme of rape of women, is scheduled for Sunday in Lubumbashi, in the province of Haut-Katanga, in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has announced the author of the film, contacted by telephone on Thursday by CPA.

 ‘The main message of the project is addressed to women victims (…). The casting of the film’s actors is open to all local talent in order to influence the population to believe in the reality of the story we are telling through their performances on stage’, has declared Nice Patrice Mupenda, the film’s creator.  ‘This film showcases our Congolese culture with a slice of our city’s reality, particularly with regard to the robberies.

This work sends out a strong message to women victims of rape: they can overcome their depression despite the torment, because a life awaits them’, he has added.  According to the author, Victime tells ‘the story of a girl with a tomboyish appearance who, after being raped and losing her parents during a home invasion, decides to take justice into her own hands against any perverts who have sexually abused her, with the help of her friend who has supported her through this ordeal’.

To hear him tell it, those interested should expect a casting worthy of the name, with precise requirements based on the needs of the project. ‘The profiles sought for certain roles are those of sportsmen, he has concluded. Nice Patrice Mupenda, a screenwriter and director based in Lubumbashi, begins his career in 2018. 

In 2024, he directs ‘Épreuve’, his first feature film. And ‘Avec Sawa’, his most recent project, in which he has mobilized 15 actors, including a 13-year-old girl and an albino woman, to denounce the social discriminations against people with albinism.
