Kinshasa, June 5th, 2025 (CPA).- The mentoring in the female leadership has been the subject of discussions during an awareness campaign launched on Thursday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to encourage the progress, the development and fulfilment of Congolese women. ‘I am sensitising all women in DRC to consider mentoring in female leadership, as it allows them to refocus and get to know themselves better and avoid the most common stereotypes and prejudices that affect and prevent women from flourishing,’ has declared Merveille Kimbinga, coordinator of the Mukar-wa organisation.
Ms Kimbinga reveals that the stereotypes and prejudices that affect the fulfilment of women leaders include criticism related to their appearance rather than their skills, as well as the difficulty people have in believing in them in a male-dominated society, as they are considered less decisive. ‘A woman leader must fight inequality, not to compare herself to men, but to establish a policy that lets the world know that the genders are equal,’ she has said.
To develop and advance in their careers, Ms Kimbinga advises women leaders to ‘know themselves first before embarking on leadership, as they have the burden of speaking to others and mentoring others. You become a good leader by influencing others to know their values and bring out the best in themselves,’ she has concluded. This campaign of sensitisation has been launched to encourage women leaders to become aware of their importance, their capabilities in female leadership and mentoring for sustainable and societal development, in order to combat gender inequality.
