Kinshasa, May 6th, 2025 (CPA) – The reopening of the central market in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been at the centre of a technical working session which brought together the governor and the members of the bureau of the provincial assembly, according to a video from the town hall received on Tuesday by CPA. « We have talked about Kinshasa’s central market, which needs to be reopened so that the city can have some revenue. A delegation of members of the urban executive and provincial deputies is due to visit the market. The aim is to see what work has already been done and what remains to be done, and to urge the company in charge of the work to finish the job once and for all so that the market can be reopened », has declared in the video Levi Mbuta, president of the provincial assembly. « There are several challenges to overcome. In particular the problem of flooding that we have experienced in the city. The executive is working to find solutions. We are going to support it with the committee that we have set up with the MLAs who live with the population on a daily basis. We are aware of the people’s problems. The executive, which is the emanation of the provincial assembly, is working in synergy with us’, he has added.

Mr Mbuta has also urged the inhabitants of Kinshasa to bear the difficulties endured these days. Because, he has explained, the city has many problems that the urban executive has decided to tackle to make it ‘liveable’ again. This is the work that the executive is currently doing on the ground. According to the president of the bureau of the deliberative body, this technical working session is part of the harmony between the urban executive and the provincial assembly. ‘The first institution in the city of Kinshasa, the provincial assembly, and the second institution, the executive, are working in harmony, while ensuring that the governor succeeds in all the tasks entrusted to him’, he has indicated.
