The United States plans to build a lithium-sulphur battery factory in the DRC

Kinshasa, April 30th, 2025 (CPA) – The construction of a lithium-sulphur battery factory in the Democratic Republic of Congo to speed up industrialization was advocated during a visit by the Minister of Industry to the Lyten Company’s facilities in California, CPA learned on Tuesday from an official source.

‘The aim of this visit is to build a lithium-sulphur battery factory in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The future factory, which will be at the cutting edge of technology, aims to transform the country’s mining resources locally, thereby creating significant national added value,’ said Louis Watum Kabamba, Minister for Industry and the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.

‘On an official mission to the United States, we came to visit the facilities of +Lyten+, a company based in California. This visit follows the signing of a historic memorandum of understanding between the DRC and this company last January in Davos, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’, he added.

He pointed out that this visit came at the instigation of the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, and as part of the policy of developing local resources advocated by the government led by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa. The DRC is thus taking a new step towards industrialization.  He noted that this initiative is fully in line with the Head of State’s vision, which makes industrialization an essential pillar of economic development and the fight against unemployment.

‘The DRC is thus preparing to join the select circle of the world’s producers of new-generation batteries, paving the way for an era of innovation and opportunities for its young people,’ he concluded.
