Tshopo: Fifty people kidnapped by ADF/NALU in Bafwasende territory (civil society)

Kisangani,  June 17th, 2025 (CPA).- Fifty people have been kidnapped by ADF/NALU rebels in the Bafwasende territory, located 264 km east of Kisangani, in the province of Tshopo in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has learned on Tuesday from an association source.

‘The ADF/NALU rebels from the neighbouring province of Nord-Kivu have kidnapped fifty people and taken them into the forest,’ has indicated Alexis Bwanandeke, president of the local civil society organisation. The victims are, according to the same source, residents of Opienge, artisanal miners and traders from Kisangani, who were captured along with their goods.

The ADF/NALU are regularly accused of abuses in the region, including looting, kidnappings and massacres of civilians, often without apparent justification.
