University of Kinshasa: the organisation of joint patrols, one of the strategies to eradicate insecurity

Kinshasa, June 5th, 2025 (CPA).- The organisation of joint patrols is one of the strategies adopted to eradicate insecurity at the University of Kinshasa (Unikin) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has indicated burgomaster of the municipality of Lemba during a meeting held on Thursday in the centre of the Congolese capital.

‘We have adopted some strategies to eradicate insecurity on the university campus, namely: the strengthening security at all university entrances, joint patrols, camera or drone systems, barriers, and checking every vehicle in order to slow down the rise in insecurity at the University of Kinshasa,’ has declared Jean-Serge Poba. ‘And I also propose that we request a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior to talk to him about this, because the insecurity that is plaguing the University of Kinshasa and the various parts of our municipality requires drastic measures,’ he has added.

The burgomaster of Lemba has also supported the rector’s preventive decision to ban motorcyclists from the university campus in order to avoid further incidents. « I regret what has happened at the Unikin. Our hearts go out to the victims, » has declared the municipal authority before promising to eradicate all pirate markets around the university campus.

Speaking in his turn, Jean Marie Kayembe, rector of the University of Kinshasa, has reminded us of the recent robbery. ‘There were five (5) to six (6) motorcycles that have entered the traffic to rob two shops. They have fired several shots. We were in our offices when this happened,’ he has remembered.

According to him, this is the fifth robbery at the University of Kinshasa between 2024 and 2025. ‘To avoid being in mourning after the sixth or seventh robbery, that is the reason for this emergency meeting,’ he has said.
