Kinshasa, May 27th, 2025 (CPA).- A project valued at two hundred million US dollars (USD 200,000,000) has been approved by the World Bank to improve the resilience of the city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a press release issued by the city hall on Tuesday. ‘The Bank has just approved a project worth more than 200 million to improve the resilience of the city of Kinshasa, through preventive interventions and the construction of infrastructure’, it read.

The City Hall document went on to say that the funding had been ‘made possible thanks to the new governance at the head of the city by Governor Daniel Bumba, who has recovered the Mpasa landfill site, which had been despoiled for some ten years’.  According to the source, this announcement was made at the end of a working session between a World Bank delegation and the governor of Kinshasa. ‘Two main issues were discussed at the meeting, namely flooding and sanitation in the capital’, the document continued. In a letter to the city of Kinshasa on January 30th, the World Bank praised the leadership shown by the urban authority.

According to the information provided in the letter from the governorate, the World Bank’s support for the actions of the provincial government of Kinshasa is part of the search for sustainable waste management solutions in the capital.
