Kinshasa, July 17th, 2021 (CPA).- The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Ève Bazaiba, and the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr Mohamed Abdelaty, inaugurated Thursday in Kinshasa the hydro computer center of Congo (CHIC).
The overall envelope of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) project implemented as part of the cooperation between the DRC and the Arab Republic of Egypt is 10,500,000 Usd (ten million five hundred thousand US dollars) . One of the pillars of this project is the Congo Hydro Informatics Center (CHIC).
This center will allow the sustainable management of water resources between the user countries and also the prevention of related disasters.
The partnership between the two countries also provides for capacity building of Congolese experts in the field of irrigation in particular.
The IWRM Project funds in the form of a grant are managed by Egypt. The partnership was signed on March 6, 2012 in Cairo, Egypt, for an initial period of 5 years in its first phase. Its implementation was timidly initiated in 2014 and in 2017 the DRC requested an extension for the second phase until 2022 for reasons of logistics delays, said the engineer Bienvenue Mulwa Gasuga, expert in Integrated Management of Water resources.
The coordinator of this forecasting center salutes the self-sacrifice of Deputy Prime Minister Bazaiba for the realization of this project, the implementation of which was difficult.
It should be noted that the IWRM Project has 5 major axes, namely the hydrometry of the Semiliki River, the training of 100 farmers to comply with the experience of Egypt, the implementation of 30 boreholes for the supply in drinking water, the center for forecasting rainy weather and adaptation to climate change and the Master training in capacity building.
