Kinshasa, June 6th, 2021 (CPA).– The Crisis Committee set up by the government through the Ministry of Transport, means of communication and opening up, to monitor the evolution and assess the air situation resulting from the eruption of Nyiragongo volcano, has just ordered the reopening of Goma airport in North Kivu province, indicates a press release from the said ministry received Saturday at the CPA.
The press release indicates that the decision to reopen this airport to traffic came at the end of the Crisis Committee meeting held on Saturday at 5 a.m., under the direction of the Minister of Transport, communication routes and opening up, Chérubin Okende Senga. .
The purpose of this meeting was to analyze meteorological data from airports and airspace in the city of Goma in the province of North Kivu, and Bukavu in the province of South Kivu.
The data collected on the spot and the analyzes of the special bulletin of the Toulouse Monitoring Center had indicated a clear improvement. It was this result that prompted Minister Chérubin Okende to authorize the reopening of Goma airport.
