Bunia, April 8th, 2021 (CPA).– The deputy director of the office of the governor of Ituri province in charge of economy and finance, Steve Senginda, announced during an interview with CPA, the execution soon paving work on more than 1,260km of roads from the said province to Uganda through the provinces of Nord and Sud Kivu, during an interview on Wednesday in his office.
He said the work is part of the joint project between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, adding that the project aims to improve trade flows between the two countries.
To do this, revealed Mr. Senginda, only the road, port and airport infrastructure development project, the improvement of customs services in terms of computerization, the acceleration of case processing is the prerequisite for the success of this project.
He suggested that in terms of roads in Ituri province, the targeted axes will start from the community of Goli-Mahagi-Bunia in Rwabisenge-Budiba in Uganda. These axes, he said, will receive special attention in that they constitute roads of common interest for the two countries.
Mr. Senginda said that the said project also provides for the construction of a bridge over Semiliki river in order to link Kampala to Bunia city by the shorter route from Rwabisengo-Budiba (Uganda and Baguma) to Bunia city, stressing that a team of technicians from two countries recently carried out a reconnaissance mission in the region of Boga to see to what extent this bridge can serve the entire region of Boga, Tchabi and connect the locality of Eringeti located in Nord Kivu province.
The governor’s deputy chief of staff recalled that this project had been on the backburner since 1996, thanks to the advent of the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who put the project back on the table.
This project is covered by DRC with 20% financing and Uganda 20% while the 60% will be covered by the company that has won the contract. ACP /Kayu/Awa
