Kinshasa, September 14th, 2021 (CPA).- Twenty five actors who are members of the “National Network of Independent Observers” (RENOI) platform will be in Kinshasa on Wednesday for a capacity building workshop on the development of a campaign and advocacy in management resources under the mentorship of the Forest Governance Observatory (OGF), in order to fight against all forms of illegalities that plague the management of natural resources, the CPA learned from the OGF on Tuesday.
According to the source, this workshop, which will take place both online and face-to-face (the situation related to Covid-19 is still relevant) will provide the members of RENOI with tools on campaign management and advocacy. to bring about positive changes that ultimately leads to positive reforms for the country.
Specifically, this first introductory workshop to mastery of advocacy aims to educate RENOI members on the approach of the « Campaign incubator » project which is being implemented.
During the workshop, participants will know how to campaign and learn about the different facets of advocacy, a tool that is quite often presented from different angles, depending on the organization.
A series of training workshops, indicates the Organization of the Forest Governance (OGF), will now be held to strengthen the capacities of RENOI members in terms of advocacy in order to contribute to the actions of sustainable management of the DRC’s forests in particular and the Congo Basin in general. This training, which is the first in the series of workshops that will be organized throughout the implementation of the project, mainly concerns an introduction to advocacy and the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) approach, which would like in the long term, the members of RENOI will be “good advocates”.
In the DRC, national civil society organizations are active in the protection of forests and in 2018 set up RENOI, in order to fight against all forms of illegality that plague the management of natural resources.
Since 2019, it should be remembered, the OGF and the RENOI have engaged with EIA, an international NGO based in the United States of America, a collaboration to better structure their strategies and efforts to fight against the illegal exploitation of natural resources. They seek to bring about changes at the provincial and national levels in the results of their actions. It is in this context that the « Campaign incubator » project, which started in June 2021, has the main objective of providing the RENOI platform with a set of necessary tools which, by supplementing actions in the field, obviously contributes to have a lasting impact on the actions that will be taken towards the sustainable management of forests and the improvement of the living conditions of local and indigenous populations.
