Kinshasa, June 25th, 2021 (CPA).– The head of work Vital Mbuilu Muanda supported Friday at the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), a doctoral thesis on the establishment of a new type of social and political organization in Africa, entitled “For a democratic society: reflection for Africa based on Karl Popper, John Rawls and Ngoma Binda”.
This dissertation is, according to the recipient, a plea for the establishment of a type of social and political organization which is in conformity with a true democratic society in Africa.
This is a problem that continues to attract the attention of thinkers who devote important philosophical reflections to it, argued its author who, through this study, proposes a democracy appropriate to African society, taking into account its historical, cultural, social and political specificity.
The applicant pursued three objectives, namely:
– achieve a better understanding of Popperian theory of open society, focusing on the values on which a society is founded with a view to ensuring their contribution to the construction of a truly democratic society;
– analyze in depth the theory of justice as equity to identify aspects that could be decisive in its project of designing a democracy adapted to the Africa of today and tomorrow;
– demonstrate the conjunction of the ideas of the philosophers that he used in his thesis to achieve this finality.
Head of research Vital Mbuilu Muanda, who received « the highest distinction » after his public defense of his thesis, called for a democracy that is both liberal and community-based capable of developing the African continent.
Prof. Godefroid Kabengele Dibwe, administrative secretary general of UNIKIN, who chaired this academic session on behalf of the rector, conferred on the recipient the rank of « Doctor of Philosophy ». ACP/
