Kinshasa, September 1st, 2021 (CPA).- The vision of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, relating to the development of natural resources will be materialized through « a workshop on the development of a National Directory of Renewable Natural Resources and Non-renewable Soil and Multisectoral Subsoil of the Democratic Republic of Congo”, a project adopted at the meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired last Friday by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde.
This project, presented to the Council of Ministers by the Minister of State, Minister of Regional Planning, Guy Loando, will allow the Democratic Republic of the Congo to have reliable data on its natural potential and the strategies for their exploitation and use. , to contribute effectively to its reconstruction and its sustainable, harmonious and balanced development, underlined the Minister of Communication, government spokesperson, Patrick Muyaya, in the minutes relating to the said meeting.
« This project harmonized within the framework of an ad hoc committee, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers of July 9, 2021, requires the active participation of thirteen (13) sectoral ministries, to achieve the production of this Yearbook« , he added.
DRC, country of renewable natural resources
The Democratic Republic of Congo, a vast territory which covers an area of 234.5 million hectares, will be able to benefit from this document which will be able to establish, for each natural resource, its location, its commercial potential, its quality and content, existing value chains and actors involved in exploitation.
The Congolese fauna conceals, it is reported, important reserves of the world, in particular 352 species of reptiles, 168 species of amphibians, 1,086 species of birds, 421 species of mammals, 1,596 species of aquatic invertebrates, of which 1,423 d freshwater and 183 marine, 544 species of terrestrial invertebrates and 1606 species of aquatic vertebrates.
As for its subsoil, apart from renewable natural resources, the DRC contains abundant non-renewable resources. These include minerals such as copper, zinc, cobalt, gold, diamond, cassiterite, tin, colombo-tantalite, wolframite, silver, manganese, cadmium, charcoal, the pyrophore.
The country’s exports of mining products represented, between 1997-1998, more than 80% of total export revenues, the share of copper varying between 3O and 45%, it should be remembered. ACP/
