Calm reigns in Haut-Katanga

Lubumbashi, May 3rd, 2021 (CPA).– Calm reigns throughout the entire Haut-Katanga province except for a few highlights recorded here and there, such is the conclusion of the extraordinary security council that the Prime Minister, Jean Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, chaired on Saturday in the banquet hall of the provincial governorate in Lubumbashi where he has been staying since Friday evening, according to the report presented by the Minister in charge of Interior of Haut Katanga, Thierry Kikontwe, a copy of which was received at CPA.

Some salient facts noted during this extraordinary council are, among others, the threat of Mai-Mai / Bakata Katanga significantly reduced thanks to the security measures put in place with the result of the arrest of a large number of these lost children.

Crime which has significantly decreased although it is still characterized by cases of thefts through windows, particularly in Lubumbashi, Likasi and Kasumbalesa and whose perpetrators are civilians sometimes acting in complicity with uncontrolled men in uniform, indicated the same report from the provincial Minister in charge of Interior.

The thefts of high and medium voltage electric cables from the National Electricity Company (SNEL) disrupt the supply of electric current in several neighborhoods, noted the provincial Security Council which, in addition, held that at the border of Kasumbalesa, contraband remains topical despite the measures deployed to fight against this fraud which plagues the revenue of the public treasury.

In this regard, the Prime Minister pledged all his support to the service concerned in order to fight against these threats and restore the authority of the State. ACP/
