Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo at the ceremony for the canonical possession of the Archbishop of Lubumbashi

Kinshasa, July 10th, 2021 (CPA).- Cardinal and Archbishop of Kinshasa Fridolin Ambongo Besungu left Kinshasa on Friday for Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Haut Katanga to attend the ceremony of canonical possession of the Archbishop of this city, Bishop Fulgence Muteba Mugalu.

Several bishops as well as the Apostolic Nuncio of the Pope in the DRC, Bishop Balestero Ettero are part of his delegation.

Appointed on May 22nd, 2021, by Pope Francis, Bishop Fulgence Muteba Mugalu was born on July 9th, 1962 in the diocese of Kongolo, in the province of Tanganyika. He was ordained a priest on August 5, 1990 and appointed Bishop of Kilwa-Kasenga on March 18th, 2005.

After obtaining a degree in pastoral theology at the University of Montreal in Canada, he was professor of theology in Lubumbashi and at the Catholic University of Kinshasa but also secretary of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Episcopal Conference. Congo National (CENCO). He was then secretary general of CENCO.

As bishop, he was coordinator of the Interdiocesan Commission for Justice and Peace of the ecclesiastical province of Lubumbashi and president of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of CENCO. Bishop Muteba is also chairman of the board of directors of the Catholic University of Congo. Since November 30, 2020, he has been apostolic administrator of the diocese of Kamina. ACP/
