Kinshasa, April 8th, 2021 (CPA) – The President of the National Assembly, Mboso N’Kodia Pwanga, urged in his opening speech of the plenary session on Wednesday, the international community to be aware of the dramatic situation in Eastern DRC.
He also challenged the same international community on its less aggressive attitude with regard to the massacres and killings which are often perpetrated in the eastern part of DRC.
“We call on the international community to be able to withdraw the armed groups that are rampant in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because there are armed terrorist groups that have been in the east of the country for 30 years. And the latter are killing the Congolese people while exploiting our wealth to buy weapons”, he said.
After a heated controversy during the previous plenary session in the lower house of Parliament on the security situation in the east of the country, President Christophe Mboso indicated that the atrocities and massacres in this part of the country require the unity of all elected determination and daring to put an end to it.
“The issue of insecurity in the east is a national concern. Our National Assembly has tried many times to denounce the massacres in this part of the country. It is our colleagues and some compatriots from the eastern provinces who came forward to denounce the facts, to raise awareness and mobilize us as the national elected representatives of the people that we are, as well as for all the institutions of the Republic can end the insecurity in the East », he added.
For the president of the National Assembly, « parliamentarians should be united around the Head of State to put an end to the killings in the East ».
It should be noted that President Mboso left the continuation of the plenary to the leadership of the First Deputy President of the National Assembly, Jean-Marc Kabund, to examine with a view to the adoption of the report of the joint committee and vote of the proposed law relating to the protection of indigenous Pygmy peoples as well as the establishment of the special commission on the situation of insecurity in the east of the country.
Creation of a special commission for a security mission in seven provinces
A special commission was created in the National Assembly during Wednesday’s plenary, which will work on the security situation in the east of the country. In addition to the provinces of Ituri, Nord Kivu, Sud Kivu, Maniema and Haut-Katanga, the plenary added Haut-Uele, Haut-Lomami and Bas-Uele among the provinces concerned by the investigation.
It will work for a month and will be made up of 15 MP not from the provinces under review. Among other things, the commission will have the task of identifying foreign and local armed terrorist groups and their backers; to make an inventory of all the means made available to the security and defense services to lead the fight against its foreign and local armed groups which commit atrocities and atrocities in eastern DRC, and to release the responsibilities of all actors involved.
