Economic, commercial and technical agreements signed between the and Qatar

Kinshasa, March 29th, 2021 (CPA) – The Minister of State, Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Marie Tumba Nzeza and the Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar, Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti signed on Monday in Doha, capital of Qatar, numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding in the field of economic, commercial and technical cooperation as well as in that of aeronautical and maritime cooperation, between DRC and Qatar.

According to a source close to the Presidency of the Republic, these agreements were signed in the presence of the President of the Republic of Congo, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Ben Hamad Al-Thani and they relate in particular to the protection expected investments between Qatar and DRC, modernization and development of airport and port infrastructure as well as capacity building of Congolese sector experts.

Regarding infrastructure, the agreements relate to the construction and financing of three flagship airports, namely, Ndjili and N’dolo in Kinshasa and Luano in Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga province. They also relate to the modernization of strategic maritime infrastructures such as the ports of Matadi, Kinshasa and Boma.

The aeronautical and maritime sectors are also taken into account in the agreements signed in Doha, underlines the source which specifies that the maritime cooperation agreement between the two States sets the framework for cooperation.

While referring to the mutual investment promotion and protection agreement between the two states, the source reports the fluidity of trade between DRC and Qatar.

On the list of agreements signed on Monday by the Congolese and Qatari authorities, there is a memorandum of understanding on training and strengthening technical skills in the oversight of the safety and security of civil aviation.

This memorandum of understanding provides for the integration of the company Qatar Airways in a Qatar-RDC partnership project relating to the support of DRC through the partnership with the Airways Authority (RVA) for the modernization, construction and the financing of three flagship airports mentioned above, in particular N’Djili in Kinshasa, Luano in Lubumbashi and Ndolo in Kinshasa for business aviation.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Qatari and Congolese sides on the activities of the Congolese Post and Telecommunications Company (SCPT), said the same source. ACP /
