Kinshasa, April 31, 2021 (CPA).- The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) favor the strengthening of military cooperation, regular consultations between the armies of the sub-region including DRC and neighboring countries with a view to fight all the armed groups which disturb the peace in this sub-region, indicates the Service of communication and information of FARDC in a statement delivered on Tuesday to CPA.
FARDC, which brings to the attention of national and international opinion the threat that these armed groups represent for DRC and neighboring countries, cites the Alliance of Democratic Forces/Madinat Tawhid wa-l-Muwahidin (ADF / MTN), the Democratic forces for the liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), the National Liberation Forces (FNL) and all other negative external and local forces.
The military cooperation that already exists between FARDC and Rwanda Defense Forces but also between FARDC and the defense forces of Uganda, Angola and the Central African Republic (CAR), the source specifies, will be extended to other countries bordering DRC in order to permanently eradicate the threat to the security of the DRC and its neighbors. “In accordance with the political will expressed by the Heads of State of the countries of the sub-region, FARDC have undertaken contacts with all the armies of the neighboring countries in DRC so as to establish appropriate strategies to resolve, once and for all, the thorny issue of insecurity in the sub-region as recommended by the spirit and the letter of Arusha agreements”, underlines the press release of the Communication and Information Service of FARDC which refers to the combined efforts by DRC and its neighbors aiming at regional economic integration in a secure environment.
FARDC recall that in September 2019 already, meetings held in Goma between the Ugandan, Rwandan and Burundian armies, in the presence of MONUSCO, Africom and ICGLR, unanimously demonstrated the need the pooling of information to allow each country concerned by cross-border terrorism to track down all outlaws, authors of insecurity in the sub-region.
In addition, the statement from FARDC communication and information service which bears the signature of Major General Léon Richard Kasonga Cibangu, spokesperson for FARDC, notes the reaffirmation of the pooling of information and efforts between DRC armies and neighboring countries and the proposal for a comprehensive approach as the ultimate strategy likely to put an end to the threat embodied by international terrorist groups and their local auxiliary forces.
