Kinshasa zero hole: inauguration of a bridge linking the municipalities of Lemba and Matete

Kinshasa, October 17th, 2022 (CPA).- Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde inaugurated, on Saturday, a bridge thrown over the Matete River, connecting on Mobutu Avenue the municipalities of Lemba and Matete to the Sub-region entrance.

After the cutting of the symbolic ribbon, the Head of Government called on local residents to make good use of this bridge, and to refrain from building on prohibited areas.

« I sensitized the mayors of Lemba and Matete so that they can also sensitize the population, not only to keep this structure, but also to ensure that there is no construction on the bed of the river. “said the Prime Minister.

According to him, all anarchic constructions that hinder the proper functioning of public works will be demolished.

For the Prime Minister, the erection of this work, financed by the Public Treasury to the tune of 643,734.19 US dollars, for a period of 6 months of work, comes in response to the need to decongest the roads of the capital.

« We have started work to arrange and build secondary roads to ensure good traffic in the city of Kinshasa, with passable roads and without holes, » he said, saying that the works that have been started throughout the city will continue until the final phase.

On this place, we recall, was another bridge, more than 50 years old, which sank for more than three years, causing floods and loss of life of nearly 30 people.

The work was carried out by Groupement Cestari-Sokerico under the supervision of the Study and Intervention Group (GEI) and the Roads and Drainage Office (OVD) as delegated contracting authority.

Avenue Kimwenza soon available to users

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde visited the construction site on Kimwenza Avenue in the Yolo district, municipality of Kalamu, in full rehabilitation.

On site, the Head of Government, after evaluating the site, encouraged the performers to speed up the process in order to deliver the work before the end of 2022.

Carried out by the Johnny matala company (JMC) at a cost of nearly 2.3 million US dollars from the public treasury, this work covers a length of 2.8 km.

Several other works are being executed as part of the « Kinshasa zero hole » program, piloted by the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works (ITP), Alexis Gisaro, under the coordination of Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge.

This work translates into actions the vision of the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, which consists in building a large Congo in the center of Africa.
