MONUSCO invites media professionals to work for peace

Kinshasa, September 22rd, 2021 (CPA) .- The Director of the Unit of the Strategic Communication and Public Information Division of MONUSCO (SCPID), Christophe Gabriel Boulierac, invited Congolese media professionals to promote the peace during the exercise of their profession, during a forum for exchanges with the media in the DRC organized on Tuesday at the Sultani hotel, in Gombe, on the sidelines of the celebration of the International Day of Peace.

Christophe Gabriel Boulierac also invited them, during this meeting updated by the SCPID in collaboration with the WHO, UNESCO and the UNJHRO, not to serve as a bridge to those who use hate and tribal messages such as weapon to destroy society.

« The dissemination by the press of false information on the covid-19 pandemic and the rise of stigma, discrimination and hate speech, sources of multiple conflicts », is the theme chosen for the 2021 edition of this day commemorated on September 21 of each year, it is announced.

The Representative of UNESCO, Jean-Pierre Ilbidou, underlined, on this occasion, that the media world is currently at war against the dissemination of false information on the Covid-19 pandemic and also on the practical modalities of vaccination .

According to him, the rise of stigma, discrimination and hate speech, through the media, is the source of various conflicts between individuals in society.

The representative of UNESCO called on media professionals to fight effectively against fake news in the dissemination and publication of information to face all these forms of stigmatization, the breakthrough of digital technology having caused remarkable violence in ethics. and journalistic ethics.

Various speakers, during this forum, exchanged with the participants on freedom of expression as well as the identification of speech and messages inciting hatred in the media.

This forum for exchanges with the press was supported by regulatory bodies (CSAC) and self-regulation of the media (UNPC), as well as media associations (ACOFEPE, UCOFEM, AJPC and MLRDC), it is recalled. .
