More than 50 million euros from the French state to support the two Kivus

Kinshasa, July 17th, 2021 (CPA).– France, through the French Development Agency (AFD), is funding several initiatives aimed at meeting the essential and urgent needs of the populations of North and South Kivu, for a total amount of more of 50 million euros in subsidies, said its ambassador to the DRC, François Pujolas, in a statement received Friday at the CPA.

The French Embassy highlighted this aspect of its partnership with the DRC, on its National Day, by recalling the support given to these populations in the grip of serious difficulties linked to insecurity and its consequences on their situation. social.

The embassy also recalled France’s commitment to support, in the DRC, the areas of water, health and vocational training, key sectors of economic and social development.

As part of the “Franco-Congolese roadmap to fight Ebola and other epidemics” concluded in November 2019, on the occasion of the meeting in Paris between Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Emmanuel Macron, two financing agreements were recently signed for the strengthening of health systems in the health zones of Beni, Butembo, Karisimbi and Nyiragongo.

The city of Uvira has, for its part, benefited from a project to develop its water production and distribution infrastructure, with the contribution of the European Union and the Véolia Foundation, as part of the fight against cholera, underlines the press release.

In the sector of the integration of young people, especially young girls, France supports the INPP in the development of priority and innovative vocational training sectors through the renovation, equipment and educational support of Bukavu training centers. , Bagira and Goma.

Additional subsidy funding of 15 million euros

The French Embassy in the DRC, noted that these various actions of France were supplemented by the signing today of a financing agreement of 15 million euros in grant, between the Congolese Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi Kadima , the French Ambassador in the DRC, François Pujolas, and the Deputy Director of AFD in the DRC, Gianni Sartena.

 This ceremony was held in the presence of the Governor of the Province of South Kivu, Théo Ngwabidje Kasi, who will be the contracting authority, the Congolese Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity, Olivier Mwenze Mukaleng, and the director General of REGIDESO, Clément Mubiayi Nkashama.

This project to strengthen the water supply in Bukavu aims in particular to increase the availability of drinking water for the city by up to 50%, to support the provincial government in the exercise of the functions of the competent authority of the water supply service. drinking water entrusted to it by the water law and to improve the technical and commercial performance of the South Kivu provincial directorate of REGIDESO.
