Kinshasa, July 3rd, 2021 (CPA) – Religious and community leaders in the DRC have pledged to increase awareness among the faithful regarding the attitude to be taken against the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic in the country, after of a meeting held Monday at the interdiocesan center in Kinshasa, focused on disinformation related to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Religious and community leaders noted the need to play the role of pastor by raising the awareness of the faithful against rumors and false information that could constitute a barrier to the effective response against COVID-19.
They urged the Government of the Republic to sufficiently inform the population about the vaccination against the Coronavirus in order to help guide its decisions.
They also advised the national executive to acquire sufficient quantities of the vaccine doses, in order to avoid stockouts, to work with technologically advanced countries, which have managed to slow its spread.
Religious and community leaders wish to see the public authorities support, materially and financially, the
Church initiatives in the fight against the pandemic and strengthen the coordinating role of the fight against COVID-19 of the Ministry of Public Health.
They called on political and social actors to express their solidarity with the Congolese people in this difficult period and to refrain from speeches capable of sowing confusion and confusion regarding the existence of the disease and the measures of prevention such as vaccination.
They also thanked the DRC partners including WHO, M-RITE / USAID for their collaboration with the SEC in mobilizing funds for religious denominations. ACP/NIG
