SADC: Senate support for DRC candidate for the Executive Secretariat

Kinshasa, August 12th, 2021 (CPA).– The candidate of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the post of executive secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Faustin Luanga, received, on Tuesday, the support by the President of the Senate, Prof. Modeste Bahati Lukwebo, during an audience granted to him in his office, at the People’s Palace.

Prof. Faustin Luanga, who spoke to the press at the end of the hearing, said he had come to request the blessing of the elders of the Senate, before going to the election of the executive secretary of SADC, scheduled for August 17th, 2021, in Lilongwe (Malawi).

« It is the 16 Heads of State members of SADC countries who will elect the executive secretary of this sub-regional structure », he informed, before stressing the importance of this position for the development of Congolese economy.

“The exemplary campaign carried out gave us hope, even though we are also dealing with a competing candidate from another SADC country, Botswana. We thus thank the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the President of the Senate, Modeste Bahati, the Minister in charge of Regional Integration, Didier Manzenga, and the entire Republic, for the support received « , declared Faustin Luanga.

Originally from the province of Maniema, Faustin Luanga, senior official of the World Trade Organization (WTO), for 26 years, is an economist by training and profession. Graduated in Economics from Unikin, since the 80s, the candidate from DRC has a master’s degree in International Relations and Finance obtained in Japan, where he teaches the course of Economics to this day.

He was Economic and Development Advisor to the Honorary Head of State, Joseph Kabila Kabange, for three years.

The president of the senate, Modeste Bahati Lukwebo who encouraged the candidate Faustin Lunanga, maintained that « if the country accedes to this post, it will be a great diplomatic victory for the country ».

Pan-African film project

In addition, Modeste Bahati Lukwebo spoke with Ms. Habi Toure, actress and producer of African cinema, who came to present her project to produce a pan-African film.

This film project entitled « Inside » will be shot in part in DRC, after Tanzania, by the end of the current year, indicated Mrs. Habi Toure, for whom the objective pursued through this film in gestation is to sell the positive image of Africa, highlighting DRC.

The filming of the said footage will have the participation of HD PRODUCTION house, based in Paris and specializing in advertising and institutional films, it notes. ACP /
