Senator Eddy Mundela elected first vice-president

Kinshasa, June 13, 2021 (ACP).- Senator Eddy Mundela Kanku was elected on Saturday at the People’s Palace, first vice-president of the Senate with 80 votes out of the 92 voters, i.e. the absolute majority

Sole candidate and member of the Sacred Union of the Nation on behalf of the UDPS / Tshisekedi, Eddy Mundela succeeds Samy Badibanga who had resigned since Friday March 5 for reasons of personal convenience.

Two candidacies had been submitted to the Senate office to compete for this post but the candidacy of Senator Éric Makangu was rejected for not having been in order with certain provisions of the Senate’s internal regulations.

According to Eddy Mundela, elected representative of Kasai Oriental, one of the objectives of his mission is to implement the reforms initiated as part of the vision of the Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

Senator Eddy Mundela, in his thirties, intends to contribute effectively to the improvement of good governance in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in order to provide concrete solutions to the legitimate aspirations of the Congolese people.

« United to succeed, to serve the nation, Together, it is possible », such is his leitmotif, he said, estimating that the Senate is the appropriate room for the implementation of the positive actions of the Head of the State, because it has within it personalities whose experience « naturally places them at the heart of the strategic reflections which the country so needs to establish its ambition on realistic bases ».

The lucky fellow also promised to support the passage of laws in the most diverse areas of national life while making useful proposals.

“On the political, security and freedoms front, I will support the main legislative reforms related to the consolidation of peace and the rule of law. On the economic and financial level, in addition to the finance laws passed each year in our chamber, I will support all legislative reforms of an economic nature likely to boost the economy of our country. On the social level, I will substantially and significantly support the passage of laws protecting the family, vulnerable people and the Congolese heritage of our country « , he suggested.

On the subject of parliamentary control, Mundela intends to ensure that all mission mechanisms are placed at the sole disposal of the Senate.

With the election of First Vice President Eddy Mundela, the Senate office is now full. ACP/
