Senators from Kasai against the suspension of the UKA medicine sector

Kinshasa, September 22rd, 2021 (CPA) .- Senators from Kasaï Central received on Monday by the president of the senate, Modeste Bahati Lukwebo, in his office, said they were indignant at the decision of the Ministry of Higher Education and university (ESU), including the closure of the faculty of medicine at the University of Notre Dame du Kasayi (UKA).

The caucus of elected representatives of Kasai also kept the president of the upper house of Parliament informed of the lack of regular flights to serve the Kasai area, since the fall in the price of plane tickets, as well as that of appropriate equipment that can enable the police to ensure the safety of the population and property in this part of the country.

Senator Denis Kambayi, head of the delegation, at the end of the hearing, said that he had brought the problems to the level of the upper house of Parliament, which is an emanation of the provinces, for adequate solutions, and indicated that President Modeste Bahati listened to their concerns.

UKA promises to prove the viability of its medical school

In addition, in a statement sent to the CPA on Tuesday, the rector of this alma mater, Prof. Joséphine Bitota Muamba, promises to bring elements in favor of the viability of their medical faculty, pending official notification from the ministry of ESU.

« The number 1 of this university reassures that the academic authorities of this alma mater are at work in order to provide the elements in favor of the viability of the medical school of the UKA. We invite all students, their parents or guardians as well as the entire Kasai community to remain calm, ”the document emphasizes.

Support from the « European Center for Electoral Support » to the INEC

In addition, Modeste Bahati spoke on the same day with a delegation from the « European Center for Electoral Support » to learn about INEC reforms and the political aspects surrounding them.

This structure, with expertise in electoral matters, works in collaboration with the European Union.

 She expressed to the President of the Senate her willingness to support the electoral center, particularly in building staff capacities.
