Support for victims of Goma: EU allocates 180,000 euros to DRC

Kinshasa, May 27th, 2021 (CPA).- The European Union has allocated 180,000 euros to the Red Cross of the Democratic Republic of Congo to support the victims of Goma, a delegation from the European Union, led by Jean-Marc, said on Thursday. Marc Châtaigner, EU Ambassador to DRC, after an audience that the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel SamaLukonde granted in his office, in Gombe municipality.

During their exchange, priority assistance actions carried out in favor of the population of Goma were discussed, in particular the restoration of electricity and the contribution of 180,000 thousand euros paid to DRC Red Cross.

“The situation is very serious, very threatening. The Government has taken a decision to evacuate part of the neighborhoods in Goma. And I must of course bring the message of sympathy, solidarity but, at the same time, indicate the readiness of the European Union to support the Congolese Government and the authorities to deal with this serious humanitarian situation in the Nord Kivu region. . On other aspects, there are movements of displacement of populations for which I really express my sympathy because it is terrible. They have to leave their homes to be settled in camps, especially in Sake”, said Jean-Marc Châtaigner, Ambassador and Head of EU delegation. ACP /
