Kinshasa, May 27th, 2021 (CPA).– Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde instructed the political, administrative and Congolese National Police authorities in Kinshasa city to put an end to traffic jams, police harassment and insecurity in the capital as well as in the major cities of DRC, at the end of a working session and strategic analysis held on Tuesday in his office.
At the end of this meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Interior, Daniel Aselo Okito, in his report, indicated that the Prime Minister considered it necessary to bring together the heads of these sectors to talk about these gnawing issues the transport sector. Daniel Aselo thus expressed the need to take urgent measures for Kinshasa city particularly, in relation to the roads, traffic jams as well as the bad behavior of Kinshasa residents and drivers.
For his part, the Governor of Kinshasa city, Gentiny Ngobila, intends to get involved so that solutions are found in order to put an end both to these antivalues and to insecurity in the capital.
“We have serious road problems in this city. The urban road network is completely degraded. The roads are faulty. A road has a lifespan of more than 20 years. Without serious maintenance, a road cannot last beyond 20 years. And yet this urban road system dates from the colonial era. We gained independence in 1960. There were 400,000 inhabitants in Kinshasa. Since then, our roads have not been adapted or modernized to accommodate a population of 15 million. We need the right solutions to end the traffic jams and mobility problems in this city. We have proposed solutions such as the urban train to solve this kind of problem”, explained the governor of Kinshasa city.
This working session was notably attended by the Ministers in charge of Transport and Communication, Infrastructure and Public Works as well as the Commissioner General of the Congolese National Police. ACP / Indombe
