Kinshasa, June 24th, 2020 (CPA).- The project to build a new courthouse for administrative jurisdictions was, on Thursday, at the center of discussions between Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the 1st President of the Council of State, Vundwawe te Pemako, and the Deputy Director of the office of the Head of State in charge of legal, political and diplomatic issues, Nicole Bwatshia Ntumba, in the presence of the Minister in charge of Urban Planning and Housing, Pius Muabilu, as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Congo, Deogratias Mutombo.
The Minister in charge of Budget, Aime Boji, that of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, were represented at this working session by their deputy ministers.
At the end of the hearing, the 1st President of the Council of State, Vundwawe te Pemako, indicated that since the establishment of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Constitutional Court and the General Prosecutor’s Office, even since Independence, there is no courthouse worthy of this country, apart from the one the Belgians left behind. This is how the Council of State asked the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, to build a new courthouse in Kinshasa, he stressed.
The 1st President Vundwawe indicated that the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, had authorized them to carry out a mission in Italy, to seek and find funding for the realization of this project, explaining subsequently that this audience with the Prime Minister is a way of saying that everything has been done at our level.
However, he said, there are still three points on which we should find a solution.
« The Prime Minister has agreed to accompany us and I believe that if all goes well, we will have a new courthouse worthy of our country », he said, before insisting that each High Judicial Court should have its courthouse worthy of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
« I believe that for the first time, the President of the Republic will be honored to have endowed the country with a courthouse worthy of this country. Of course after the Council of State, we will do the same for the Court of Cassation, the General Prosecutor’s Office and also for the Constitutional Court », he added.
The site chosen for the construction of this new Kinshasa courthouse is the land where the old Kasa-vubu cemetery is located, in front of the « Maman Poto » bakery. A 7-storey building will be erected there. ACP/
