Goma,June 25th, 2021 (CPA).- The Denise Nyakeru Foundation materialized on Friday its promise to serve the Katindo military camp in Goma, capital of the province of North Kivu, victim of the seismic tremors following the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano on May 22nd, which destroyed several residential houses and some public buildings along its path, leaving many families homeless.
For the first service, a tanker truck with a capacity of 15 m3 of drinking water was deployed to alleviate the shortage of this commodity on this densely populated site.
This gesture is the response of the First Lady of the DRC, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, president of this foundation which bears her name, to the concerns expressed by the wives of the soldiers during the visit she made to feel with her fingers the realities after the natural disaster that shook the city of Goma and its surroundings.
This provisional action is taking place in emergency mode pending a lasting solution from the country’s authorities and from Regideso, the company responsible for distributing drinking water in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The same lack of drinking water is observed in the camp of the police officers in charge of the central prison of Goma, commonly known as Munzenze, where studies have been carried out to respond appropriately to this shortage.
500 metal benches given to the provincial office of the EPST
Also as part of the response to the multiple problems caused by the volcanic eruption, the Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi Foundation donated 500 metal desks to schools vandalized by this devastating disaster where benches were used as firewood by disaster victims there. found refuge.
This grant was received by the provincial director of education (Proved) deputy of EPSP Nord-Kivu I, with the heads of the schools that hosted the victims at his side.
The officials of the schools benefiting from this assistance expressed their satisfaction for this timely aid, when the lack of benches was already a hindrance to free education at the primary level.
