The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Homeland, Security, Decentralization and Customary Affairs, Lawyer Daniel Aselo Okito wa Koy and the national elected representatives of North and South Kivu

Kinshasa, May 29, 2021 (CPA).– The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior, Security, Decentralization and Customary Affairs, Me Daniel Aselo Okito wa Koy examined with “Synergie Urgence Goma”, a structure which brings together around thirty leaders from the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu, the humanitarian, security and environmental issues that prevail in this city. According to the elected national MP from Walikale and spokesperson for this delegation, Juvénal Munubo Mubi, « Synergie Urgence Goma » came to the number one of national security to realize the efforts made by the Congolese government in relation to the humanitarian situation which currently prevails in Goma, after the volcanic eruption of Nyiragongo. For the leaders of North Kivu and South Kivu, he said, the city of Sake does not offer all guarantees of accommodation. « They want the populations to be oriented towards the city of Bukavu in South Kivu or another corner which would meet the necessary conditions, » he said. Regarding health aspects, they underlined the importance of the water supply in order to allow the population on the move to prevent water-borne diseases that can occur, before drawing the attention of Me Daniel Aselo to the problem danger posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which can easily spread during population movements. Regarding the security aspect, they asked that the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and the police ensure more security for the populations. Finally, « Synergie Urgence Goma » (Goma Urgent Synergy” suggested that there be a joint monitoring committee that would involve the government and community leaders. At the end of this hearing, the interlocutors of the Deputy Prime Minister said they were reassured that their concerns were answered. The number one in national security promised them to relay their message to the Prime Minister, head of government. « We will stay in contact with the government through the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior to see to what extent to follow up together and participate in this humanitarian response of the government for our populations », underlined the elected from Walikale. “Synergie Urgence Goma” (Goma Urgent Synergy) is an initiative that brings together several leaders, including deputies and customary chiefs from North Kivu and South Kivu.
