The construction of Kazungula Bridge linking Zambia to Botswana is the fulfillment of the dream of the Fathers of Pan-Africanism, declared President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, in his speech, during the inauguration ceremony of the said bridge, at the border post of Botswana.
According to a source close to the Presidency of the Republic, the Head of State, speaking as « chairman » of Africa, thanked the initiative of Gaborone and Lusaka. He believes this starts a bright path for the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF).
All the Heads of State present at the ceremony took turns speaking. The first to speak was the General Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Felix Tshisekedi, who has been staying in Zambia since Sunday at the invitation of his counterpart, after his diplomatic marathon in Khartoum (Sudan) and Cairo (Egypt), arrived by helicopter together with Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in Kazungula.
In addition to the Congolese President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the Presidents of Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, the Namibian vice-president, the general secretary of SADC and the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs who came to represent its President.
President Félix Tshisekedi has left Livingston (Zambia) for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula and Professor Ntumba Luaba, Coordinator of the Panel accompanying the Congolese mandate to the African Union make up the Congolese delegation.
