Kinshasa, April 31, 2021 (CPA).- The President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, returned on Wednesday to Kinshasa city from Doha in Qatar where many agreements and memoranda of understanding between DRC were sealed and this country of West Asia, in the fields of economic, commercial and technical cooperation as well as in that of aeronautical and maritime cooperation.
According to sources close to the Presidency of the Republic, these agreements relate in particular to the protection of the investments expected between Qatar and DRC, the modernization and development of airport and port infrastructures as well as the capacity building of Congolese sector experts.
Regarding infrastructure, the agreements relate to the construction and financing of three flagship airports, namely, N’djili and N’dolo in Kinshasa and Luano in Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga province. They also relate to the modernization of strategic maritime infrastructures such as the ports of Matadi, Kinshasa and Boma. The aeronautical and maritime sectors are also taken into account. A memorandum of understanding on the training and strengthening of technical skills in the supervision of the safety and security of civil aviation is also on the list of these agreements, as well as on the activities of the Congolese Post Office and Telecommunications (SCPT), indicates the same source.
Qatari businessmen reassured of the security of their investments
President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi reassured Qatari businessmen of his will and the efforts of the Congolese government to secure their investments during a speech he delivered Tuesday in Doha, at the opening of a business forum which brought together Qatari and Congolese businessmen.
The Head of State presented the various business opportunities offered by DRC in the most attractive sectors including agriculture, mining, energy, tourism and the environment.
He also placed particular emphasis on the real estate sector and the pressing need for the construction of schools in support of the free education decreed two years ago.
Taking stock of the business climate in DRC, he assured that several legal texts governing the sector and which protect foreign direct investments as much as possible have been implemented.
Hamad International Airport: expertise to be duplicated in DRC
The President of the Republic Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo visited on Tuesday the Doha airport facilities to soak up the working methods and technical prowess of Qatar, as part of the cooperation agreements signed between the Congolese government through the Airways Authority (RVA) and the giant Qatar Airways
The Head of State was able to witness personally the high degree of work capacity and organization of his hosts during a visit he made for more than an hour to Hamad international airport in Doha.
The Head of State carefully followed the explanations provided to him on the operation of this airport. Whether it is about security devices, passenger control points as well as the various services and spaces reserved for non-aeronautical activities, in particular commerce, everything is perfectly organized and managed by Qatar Airways which is quite a good aeronautical machine oiled, working in compliance with environmental standards.
In the President of the Republic’s suite, Congolese aviation experts were able to familiarize themselves with Qatar’s achievements and gain insight into their experience and expertise as an airport builder, operator and operator.
