The Senate adopts in second reading the organic bill on the INEC

Kinshasa June 12th, 2021 (CPA).- The 95 senators present at the plenary voted unanimously on Friday, after examination, the bill modifying and supplementing the organic law on the organization and functioning of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .

Overall, 13 articles of this organic law were passed in identical terms to those of the lower house of Parliament, which had examined it at first reading. These were articles 10, 12, 14, 17, 21, 22, 24, 24 bis, 25, 25 bis, 28, 42 and 52.

Said law will be transmitted to the President of the Republic for promulgation.

Since it is an organic law, it must request the opinion of conformity with the Constitution before its promulgation. It will therefore be transmitted to the Constitutional Court before its promulgation by the Head of State. The latter has fifteen days as to this.

The main innovation in this bill happens to be the fact that the composition of the members of the office goes from 13 to 15.

They will all be nominated by the forces of the National Assembly and civil society, six by the majority, 4 by the opposition and 5 by civil society. ACP/
