Transport Minister authorizes resumption of activities at Kavumu airport in South Kivu

Kinshasa, May 31st, 2021 (CPA).- The Minister of Transport, means of communication and opening up, Chérubin Okende Senga, has just authorized the resumption of air activities at Kavumu airport in the province of South Kivu, indicates a communiqué of the said ministry received Sunday at the CPA.

According to the source, the crisis committee set up by the government to monitor and assess the evolution of the air situation resulting from the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano, which occurred on May 22, met on Sunday under the direction of the Minister of Transport, to analyze meteorological data from airports and airspace.

In fact, meteorological data from airports and airspace as well as the special bulletin from the Toulouse surveillance center indicate that the conditions relating to the reopening of air traffic at Kavumu airport in Bukavu are satisfactory.

Similarly, the same source indicates, the « flight radar » weather observation and the Toulouse observation are reassuring of the resumption of activities at Kavumu airport.

It is within this framework, specifies the source, that Minister Okende ordered the services appointed to know the Airways Authority (RVA) to disseminate in the moments that follow, an update of the « NOTAM » indicating the relative conditions. at this resumption.

However, despite the positive development of the situation at Goma airport in North Kivu, it remains closed and under the surveillance of the crisis committee until further notice.
