US support DRC’s efforts to restore peace in the east of the country

Kinshasa, March 30th, 2021 (CPA) – The Ambassador of the United States of America in DRC, Mike Hammer, expressed the willingness of the government of his country to support the efforts of DRC in restoring peace in the East of the country, during an audience granted to him on Monday by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge at the Government House in Gombe municipality, Kinshasa.

“We discussed the priorities of the Government which will be released in a few days. What is more important is that the prime minister insisted on economic and security issues in eastern DRC. He also wants us to work together on environmental and health issues, but also to support the Government in preparing for good elections in 2023″, said Mike Hammer.

In addition to questions relating to the economy and security, the two personalities also spoke about the fight against anti-values, including corruption.

“Finally, we discussed the importance of fighting against anti-values, especially corruption. It is corruption that is at the root of many problems in the East, especially the illegal exploitation of mineral resources … We want to work together for the good of the Congolese and American peoples », he added.

The American diplomat also reiterated the readiness of his Government to support DRC in the fight against corruption which is the hobbyhorse of the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

During this meeting, it is recalled, the two personalities exchanged views on economic issues relating to environmental protection and security in DRC.
