Kinshasa, June 25th, 2021 (CPA).- The United States Ambassador to the DRC, Mike Hammer said Thursday after the audience granted to him in Goma by the military governor of North Kivu, the Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima, that the USA support the efforts to pacify the eastern part of the DRC launched by the Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.
The US diplomat was referring to ongoing military operations in Ituri and North Kivu provinces alongside other actions in neighboring provinces by the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC).
« We are here to support the actions of the Head of State to bring peace to eastern DRC. The people of the East have suffered greatly. Even if we have to hunt down the ADF and other armed groups, we still have to protect human rights, freedom of expression and press and provide humanitarian assistance,”he said.
During these exchanges, the two personalities also spoke of the progress made by the DRC during the state of siege, the importance of the work of humanitarian agencies, as well as the recovery efforts after the volcanic eruption of Nyiragongo. ACP/
