Bunia, April 3rd, 2021 (CPA) .- The Provincial Minister in charge of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock of Ituri, Me Guershom Dramani Pilo, announced the submission of a concept note for the budgeting of the LEAF III project with financial support from the African Development Bank (ADB) for the creation of aquaculture reserve areas in the spawning grounds of Lake Albert. Provincial Minister Me Dramani Pilo, who recently made this statement during a press conference, explained that this project is part of a sustainable solution to the uncontrolled exploitation of these areas whose wealth flora and fauna gives it the status of a reserve area capable of being protected against any anthropogenic threat.
For him, the goal is to protect the animal and plant biodiversity sheltering the area against the threats that threaten the fishery resources of Lake Albert, mainly used by the riparian community. Regarding the issue of the occupation of spawning grounds, the provincial minister of agriculture has indicated that this issue is close to the heart of the provincial executive through his ministry, stressing that the operation to evict the fishermen who occupy these areas requires substantial resources to bring the situation back to normal.
