Goma, April 3rd, 2021 (CPA) .- The governor of the province of North Kivu, Carly Nzanzu Kasivita, took delivery last Wednesday of the works carried out by the NGO Mercy Corps with a view to increasing the supply of drinking water in favor of neighborhoods in the northern part of the city of Goma as well as part of the territory of Nyiragongo. These are mainly two reservoirs with a capacity of 5000 m3 each, 65 km of pipes laid in the ground of Goma and Nyiragongo plus 94 standpipes built at a cost of 36 million pounds sterling, a funding from the British Department for international development (DFDI).
With by his side the president of the Provincial Assembly of North Kivu, Robert Seninga and certain elected officials of the territory of Nyiragongo, the governor welcomed the realization of these works, fruit of the active diplomacy of the Head of State who grants a priority to the well-being of citizens. Carly Nzanzu Kasivita called on the beneficiary population to ensure the protection of works of community interest. Much of the old drinking water supply network to the city of Goma was destroyed during the 2002 eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano. The extension of the water supply to the localities of the territory of Nyiragongo on the border with Goma, constitutes a response to the remarkable demographic explosion in this part where water is a major priority.
